| 1.Fold the belt in half, even up the ends and remove any twists. The fold should be in your right hand and the ends in your left. If your belt is a black belt with a rank marking, the marking should be on top. |
| 2. Place the middle of the belt (where the fold is) against the middle of the person's stomach with the top half to your left and the bottom to your right. |
| 3. Push the end on your left around the back and bring it forward on your right on the inside. (next to the body). |
| 4. Push the end on your right around the back and bring it forward on the left on the outside |
| 5. Hold the three layers of belt in the middle of the stomach. |
| 6. Pull the end of the belt which is now on the inside (next to the body), out from the bottom. |
| 7. Push the end of the belt which is now on the outside up from the bottom and around both layers of the belt, on the inside. Pull on the ends to take up the slack and even up the end lengths. |
| 8. Place the end of the belt which is now on your left, under the right and form an X with the top end on top, then bring the top up and through the middle of the open area formed by the two ends. Pull on both ends to tighten the knot. |
| 9. The finished belt should have free ends which are the same length and the knot should look like a fortune cookie. |
